J-1 applicants may train and receive payment from their host company while waiting for their Social Security number to process.
While waiting for your SSN to process, provide your employer with a letter from the Social Security Administration stating that you applied for a number. Your immigration documents (Form DS-2019, passport, visa foil) can prove your employment eligibility.
